Helium and What it Means to Me

As I mentioned in a previous post, through working on-line, I came across a site called Helium. It is a site for established writers and not so established writers. Those who want to learn about and improve on their writing techniques.

At this site you will find many, many topics and debates that you can choose to write on. If you can't find any topics that interest you, which is highly unlikely, you can start a new one.

I fell in love with this site and now I find myself rushing through my other work so that I can go to Helium. Once there, I just seem to get lost in it. I often end up spending hours reading articles, visiting the community boards, and spend a fair amount of time rating articles written by other authors. Also, while doing all this, I am looking for articles I want to write to myself. Inevitably, I find several.

Helium also has ways that you can earn money. They have periodic contests with cash prizes and they have what is called Market Place. There you will find advertisers who are willing to pay money for articles on subjects that they want to publish an article about. They give a period of time for all interested parties to submit their articles and they pick the one they most want to publish.

For me, Helium is an addiction! I have to spend time there each and every day. It's a must for me. The amount of knowledge you will find there is amazing. You will also meet people, on the community boards, from all over the world. All working together, and trying to help each other get better at achieving their goals.

It is my desire to become a better writer and I believe that my time at Helium is helping me to do that. Now, I am even considering going back to school to study comprehensive writing.

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT WORK AT HOME PROGRAMS

When I first started this blog I was all excited about work from home programs and all the possibilities I believed were out there. After about 6 months of chasing this dream, my opinion has changed in a major way.

Maybe I am missing something major and that's why I can't find success. I have to say though, I consider myself a somewhat intelligent person. All the programs that I checked out, some of which I joined, said that if you do EXACTLY what they tell you, you will make money.

After putting in hours and hours of work on this, I must tell you that there is not enough time in the day to do everything they tell you to do. Some of the things they tell you to do are things that you may not want to do. Things that you find at the very least, distasteful. So they have you there...not very many people are going to be able to accomplish this...if any.

I did, however, meet some really nice people while traveling around on the net. People who didn't mind being honest with me. One of these people gave me advice free. I found that really refreshing. He also told me that you cannot succeed without having your own web site and a way to get people to visit it.

That may seem like a simple fact to most of you. For myself, however, I was being told that I didn't need to worry about having my own web site. I could be successful without it. I believed them because I didn't know any better, at that time.

The success I've had with these programs is non-existent. One good thing has come out of my experience, though. I like to write and through one of these programs I found a site called Helium.

ARTICLE WRITING

I've just got to share with you my newest venture in the "Work At Home" project! I'm so excited about it that I have to pass it on!

I have always wanted to get involved with writing in some way. Do I think I could write a novel? Absolutely NOT! Something of that magnitude seems way beyond me, at least for now. I've thought about it many times in the past but it seems "Hudge" to me. Think about it...you have to have a good plot, but that actually seems like the easy part to me. It's all the rest of it...pages and pages of description, everybodies' thoughts, all the conversations...and getting from "A" to "Z" in a rational and logical way that is also entertaining...and somehow managing to hold everyone's interest at the same time. Like I said, HUDGE!

What I was good at back in school, however, was short stories and essays. I enjoyed writing those types of things, although, I will admit; it's been a day or two since then! I find it takes me much longer to get these projects done then it use to. Indecision seems to be my biggest enemy.

In my travels around the internet a couple of days ago, I discovered a lady who has an E-book called "30 Minute Article Writing". This caught my attention because I sometimes spend hours writing an article. After reading her information, I ordered her E-book. I sat down and wrote my first 30 minute article immediately. I have to tell you, I am really excited about this book! It leaves nothing to chance. It tells you exactly what to do, when to do it, and even how long you spend on each step! This was just what I needed. Besides being worried about the length of time I was spending on writing my articles, I was also worried about how soon I would run out of ideas for new articles. This book covers that, too, and now I have a whole list of potential articles.

HOW I GOT STARTED IN A "WORK AT HOME" PROGRAM

About three years ago I became disabled. Now that I am no longer able to go out and work, I found myself bored and unfulfilled. I had way to much time on my hands. I have worked all my life and now....what do I do?
